Research Assistant Testimonials

DAVID DILLER, MD

Dear Dr. Warner,

It is amazing how quickly four years have gone by, as I feel like it was just the other month when I was scrubbing in for cases with you, Nate, Jon, and Bassem.

My four years of medical school have been some of the best of my life, and I truly feel that UVM was the best program in the country for me. I excelled here, in large part due to the classmates, friends, and faculty who inspired me. I won numerous awards, both on the collegial and national level, and founded a charity marathon team that by this coming May will have raised over $100,000 for neuroblastoma clinical trials. I was appointed to serve as the EMRA Northeast Representative of medical students, serving 15 states and 66 medical schools, and I didn't do too shabby academically either...

...I am proud to say that I got interview offers from the most reputable programs nationwide, from Stanford to Brigham/MGH, and that last week I found out that
I matched at my first choice, Columbia, St. Luke's-Roosevelt [for] Emergency Medicine, I could not ask for a better program, and I am truly happy and excited to start my residency training this summer.

It is very possible that none of this would have come to be without your help, and I want to thank you for your help, your guidance, and most of all, your confidence in me.

I hope all is well with you and your family, and hope that you have continued the tradition of employing research assistants. I will do my best to stay in touch over the years, and please pass my regards on to Karen and the rest of the office staff.

Best Regards,

David

TRAVIS O'BRIEN

Dear Dr. Warner,

It has been almost a year and a half since I left the Harvard Shoulder Service, so I thought I should give you an update on what I have been doing. As you know, I am in medical school at the University of Rochester, where I am currently a second year student. I have really enjoyed my experience here and learned a lot thus far. I am doing quite well academically… The curriculum at Rochester is a little unique in that I am doing the primary care clerkship simultaneously with basic science classes. I am pretty busy, but would not want to be doing anything else. The quality of teaching and clinical experiences here are really second to none. This past summer, I actually had the opportunity to spend two months in Senegal, where I helped organize the first universal mosquito net distribution in West Africa. It was quite an eye opening experience living in remote villages and I was able to do some really good research, which I am currently trying to publish.

I really want to thank you for the opportunity you gave me to be a research assistant there. I learned a lot, not just about research, but about computers, filming, video editing, website design and a lot of other skills I took for granted at the time. It definitely gave me an advantage when applying to med school and will continue to help me when I apply to residency and beyond. One of my classmates looked at my CV the other day and was amazed at how many shoulder research projects and publications I was involved in. The experience was truly unparalleled in that regard, not to mention how much I enjoyed living in Boston. I hope your current research assistants are enjoying their time there and tell them they should feel free to contact me if they have questions about the University of Rochester or applying to medical school in general...

Thanks again for the opportunity. Please tell everyone in the office I said Hi.

Sincerely,

Travis

JOHN DUNN

"I am currently a third year at Michigan State College (MSC) of Human Medicine (MD).

Drs. Warner and Higgins were unbelievably generous with me. I had an amazing year. I was published many times, got to attend a handful of national conferences, assisted in the OR and in clinic, and, perhaps most importantly, went to many Red Sox games.

My experience [at the Harvard Shoulder Service] helped me gain acceptance to (and to prepare for) medical school. Additionally, bewteen my first and second years of medical school, I returned to conduct independent study with Drs. Higgins and Warner. I both published and presented this research."
